Population structure of three Psammodromus species in the Iberian Peninsula

The knowledge of a species' population structure is essential for the development of adequate conservation actions as well as for the understanding of its evolution. The population structure is unknown in all species of the Genus Psammodromus, including the Western Sand Racer (Psammodromus occidentalis; a recently described species), the Edward's Sand Racer (P. edwardsianus) and the Spanish San...

Cortinarius mahiquesii, a new subhypogeous species from Catalonia (Iberian Peninsula)

We describe and comment on a new species of Cortinarius (Basidiomycota), C. mahiquesii, collected in a pure Cistus monspeliensis scrub community in Catalonia (NE of the Iberian Peninsula). Drawings of microscopic characters, scanning microphotographs of the basidiospores, and colour pictures of the basidiomes in their natural habitat are provided. A molecular analysis was carried out to charact...

Rotation of the iberian peninsula.

Jones and Ewing (1) have presented seismic profiler data from the Bay of Biscay which allows a 120 anticlockwise rotation of the Iberian peninsula between Eocene and Middle to Upper Miocene times. They refer several times to the fact that this va'ue is appreciably less than a rotation of 220, which they believe resulted from our paleomagnetic study of the Lisbon Volcanics (2). We must point out...

Analysis of the Diversity of Megachilidae Bees on the Northern Subplateau of the Iberian Peninsula

In the western Mediterranean, 772 species of bees in the family Megachilidae have been reported. Special emphasis has been placed on the Iberian Peninsula, where to date 218 species are known. However, few intensive studies providing information about communities of Megachilidae have been carried out. Two earlier works cite 70 species; almost one third of those known on the Peninsula. With an a...

Evolution of extreme Total Water Levels along the northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula

This paper assesses the evolution of storminess along the northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula through the calculation of extreme (1%) Total Water Levels (eTWL) on both observed (tide gauge and buoy data) and hindcasted (SIMAR-44) data. Those events were first identified and then characterized in terms of oceanographic parameters and atmospheric circulation features. Additionally, an analysi...
